Tab & Research Summarizer Chrome Extension — Last updated: April 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how the Tab & Research Summarizer Chrome Extension ("the Extension") collects, uses, and handles your information.

What Data We Collect

The Extension collects only what is necessary to summarize the page you are viewing:

• Page URL — the address of the tab you choose to summarize.
• Page text content — the visible text extracted from the page at the moment you click "Summarize". A maximum of 8,000 characters is sent.
• API key (optional) — if you enter a paid API key, it is stored locally in Chrome's storage.sync and never transmitted to any third party.

What We Do Not Collect

• We do not collect browsing history.
• We do not collect data from pages you do not explicitly choose to summarize.
• We do not collect personal identifying information beyond what you voluntarily provide.
• We do not use cookies or analytics trackers.

How Your Data Is Used

The page URL and text content you submit are sent to our backend API (hosted on Railway) solely to generate a summary using the Anthropic Claude API. The data is not stored, logged, or shared beyond what is required to return the summary response to you.

Anonymous free tier requests are rate-limited by a one-way hash of your IP address. The raw IP address is never stored.

Third-Party Services

• Anthropic Claude API — page content is processed by Anthropic to generate summaries. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
• Lemon Squeezy — used for payment processing if you purchase a paid plan. See Lemon Squeezy's Privacy Policy.

Data Retention

We do not store the content of summarized pages. Your API key is stored only in your local Chrome profile via chrome.storage.sync and can be removed at any time by clearing the field in the extension's settings panel.

Children's Privacy

This Extension is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes.
